Today is the summer solstice, the longest day of the year that marks the official start of summer. Celebrate this special day with a free event at the Harvard Museums of Science & Culture offering complimentary access to four museums and plenty of outdoor activities.
Explore the galleries and exhibitions at the Harvard Museum of Natural History, the Peabody Museum of Archaeology & Ethnology, the Collection of Historical Scientific Instruments, and the Harvard Museum of the Ancient Near East. Highlights include the ongoing exhibition, Resetting the Table: Food and Our Changing Tastes, at the Peabody Museum, which centers on a 1910 dinner served to Harvard freshmen and explores how historical food choices reflect social norms. And don’t miss the famous Glass Flowers exhibition at the Harvard Museum of Natural History, which features 780 types of handcrafted plant models.
Once you’re done inside, step outdoors to enjoy lively musical and circus performances, make a flower crown, or play mini-golf. Food trucks will be on-site selling ice cream, beverages, and snacks. Join in for a memorable evening of culture, music, and summer celebration.
