Ed Boesel was a BU superfan.
When Bostonia profiled him in 2019, he was the top alum registrant for University events during the Campaign for Boston University, which formally launched in 2012 and ended in 2019. Boesel had attended 227 lectures, theater performances, networking events, and other activities during the campaign.
“Boston University is a very exciting place,” Boesel (ENG’70) told Bostonia. “It’s doing a lot of great stuff in many venues, and I find it absolutely fascinating to be part of it.”
Boesel, a retired vice president of development and engineering at Fidelity Investments, also was a longtime member of Boston HOG—the Harley Owners Group, an organization founded and sponsored by Harley-Davidson Motor Company. He was riding his Harley when he died in a crash August 29, 2024, in Westford, Mass.
A member of the crew team while at BU, he endowed the Edward Boesel Rowing Scholarship, given to a team member who is an engineering student. He supported the College of Fine Arts and Boston University Tanglewood Institute scholarships and programming.
In 2015, he was inducted into the William Fairfield Warren Society, which is named for BU’s first president and honors those who have made gifts to BU totaling $1 million or more. He had season tickets to BU hockey and basketball games and attended other games and events whenever he had open days.
“I’m often scheduled for 20 evenings in a month,” he told the magazine.
