Grace Julian-Murthy’s image of an Orange Line train zooming past a field of flowers has been chosen by the MBTA, the city of Malden, and Malden Arts to become a mural outside the Malden Center T stop, which she will begin painting in May.
“In a fast-moving world, enjoying the view from the train can provide moments of solitude and reflection,” says Julian-Murthy (CFA’96), a painter, an illustrator, and a graphic designer whose often nature-centric work has been featured on the WGBH Digital Mural above the Massachusetts Turnpike in Brighton and on a series of electrical switch boxes in the Boston suburbs.
“Public art is very important to me, as I love to infuse art in places where you would not normally come in contact with it,” she says.
Her acrylic mini-paintings are available at The Gallery@57 in Malden.
