Spring is slowly coming to Boston, and despite the forecast for more rain and cloudy weather, there’s a lot happening on campus and across the city this weekend. There’s On Broadway’s annual spring musical, a local celebration in honor of Record Store Day, and Boston’s first-ever Duck Boat–pulling competition. We’ve got the details on those standout events and more—so take advantage of Boston before the school year is over.
On Broadway’s production of Into the Woods
On Broadway, Boston University’s premier musical theater organization, is hosting its annual spring production this weekend, Tony Award–winning Into the Woods by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine. Based on intertwining plots of several fairy tales by the Brothers Grimm, the show runs Thursday through Saturday. Tickets are just $9 for BU students ($12 for the general public) and can sell out quickly, so buy yours now to see Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel, and Jack (from the beanstalk tale) as they race against time to reverse a spell.

Book Reading and Signing with Felipe Torres
BU alum Felipe Torres Medina (COM’15) will be returning to campus to host a reading and signing of his new book, America, Let Me In. As a writer for The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Torres has earned five Emmy nominations and a Peabody Award. Don’t miss a chance to meet this very funny alum!

Friday Night Trivia at The Berkeley
Think you’ve got what it takes to dominate trivia night? Grab your friends and head to The Berkeley, the Back Bay eatery, for its weekly Friday Night Trivia with Ponder Trivia. It will be in a classic pen-and-paper format—and there will be prizes. Reservations are recommended but not required, and bar seating is available on a firstccome, first served basis.

Inaugural Duck Boat Pull Competition
Boston’s Parks and Recreation Department is hosting its first-ever Duck Boat Pull, a fundraiser to support the city’s free youth sports programming. This unique event, held in partnership with the popular Boston Duck Tours, will prompt teams of 10 to compete as they attempt to pull a 21,000-pound Duck Boat across a course on the Boston Common. So head to the Common and cheer on the teams.

Foundation Drawing: The Legacy of John Wilson
The BU College of Fine Arts School of Visual Arts presents Foundation Drawing: The Legacy of John Wilson, the culmination of its collaboration with the Museum of Fine Arts, where the exhibition, Witnessing Humanity: The Art of John Wilson, is on view through June 22. Wilson taught undergraduate foundation drawing at BU for more than 20 years. Students in SVA’s current first-year drawing classes were invited to visit the MFA to experience Wilson’s work firsthand and to create works of their own in response to his prints, paintings, and drawings. You can see their works on display in the Commonwealth Gallery at CFA through April 18.

Record Store Day 2025 at Bow Market
Record Store Day, the biannual event that celebrates independent record stores, is Saturday, April 12. In celebration, vinyl index., a record store with new and used vinyl at Bow Market in Somerville’s Union Square, is hosting a jam-packed day of events. Doors open at 9 am, with hundreds of exclusive Record Store Day titles—all first come, first served. Screen printing shop ANTI Designs will print exclusive Record Store Day tees and totes for sale, and Soulelujah DJs will play tons of records to keep the vibes high.
