Women’s Lacrosse Continues to Build on Bounce-Back Season
Terriers have already passed last year’s win total
At this point last year, the Boston University women’s lacrosse team was in the midst of a nine-game losing streak during a season that saw the Terriers finish dead last in the Patriot League. Now, with several players coming back from injuries and others returning to the field with more experience, the Terriers have already passed last year’s win total and are sitting in the Patriot League conference top five.
The Terriers are 7-5, with conference wins over Bucknell and Lafayette, as they prepare to host Loyola Maryland Saturday at Nickerson Field.
“We’ve had some great moments and some great games, and then a few tough learning lessons,” head coach Lauren Morton (CAS’08) says. “I’ve been really, really impressed with the work ethic, the motivation, the attitude of this group. They’ve been determined to help us get to where we want to be.”
One of the lessons Morton cites was during their most recent game, at Lehigh April 5. The Terriers held a 14-11 lead with just over four minutes left in the game, but surrendered four-straight goals to the Mountain Hawks, falling in overtime.
The team is now reinforcing the importance of playing with a lead and being able to make adjustments late in games.
“We were expecting to win that game, but I think this little bump in the road has definitely humbled us,” captain Kendall Sims (Questrom’24,’25) says. “We can’t get comfortable at any point in the game, so going into the next games, we need to just be playing really consistently and not take any reps off. We need to have full focus the whole game.”

Sims, alongside Izabella Amonte (Questrom’27), Jayne Feeney (CAS’26), and others, is part of a crop of players who missed last season with injuries. Amonte leads the team in points, with Sims and Feeney rounding out the top seven and recording over 20 draw controls each.
The varied offense has proven a strength for the Terriers, with eight different players scoring double-digit points. BU averages 11.5 goals per game, ranking sixth in the Patriot League.
“It’s definitely hard for a defense to stop when a team, like ours, doesn’t have just one or two offensive threats,” Sims says. “As long as everyone can be a threat, that’s really hard to stop.”
Another strength for the Terriers is woman-up goals per game, and with 1.67, BU leads the conference. The team also dominates on free position attempts, scoring at a .536 clip. Amonte, Tessa Geddes (CAS’27), and Avery Jones (CAS’25) have scored the bulk of BU’s free-position goals this season.
“Those are the stoppages and the opportunities for us to be able to take advantage and put a point on the board,” Morton says. “That’s definitely just where we want to continue—to make that be the separating factor.”
In net, goalie Natalie Aiosa (CAS’27) has taken a leap her sophomore year, improving in almost every category over last season. She has allowed five fewer goals per game, and she leads the Patriot League with an impressive .486 save percentage.
Sims says Aiosa is the “backbone of our defense” and holds the entire team accountable. Morton attributes the goalie’s improvements to her growing confidence on the field. “She’s coming in just so well prepared, and she knows now what it takes to be successful,” the coach says. “Understanding what it takes mentally, especially as a goalie, but also being able to make those adjustments in the game…has been awesome.”
The Terriers have four games left in the regular season before the Patriot League tournament begins April 27. First up is Saturday’s game against No. 15/16 Loyola Maryland, a formidable competitor. The game also marks the team’s Senior Day celebration.
“We want to put ourselves in the best position to be able to compete in the playoffs,” Morton says. “We have the ability to play a full 60 minutes and really play at the pace and intensity we’re capable of without having lapses.”
The Boston University women’s lacrosse team celebrates Senior Day on Saturday, April 12, at noon on Nickerson Field, hosting No. 15/16 Loyola Maryland. Admission is free for students with a Sports Pass, $5 for members of the BU community, and $10 for general admission. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
