Week of 24 April 1998 Vol. I, No. 29 BU Yesterday From the 1963 opening of the George Sherman Union until the 1983 debut of the BU Bookstore Mall, students could buy their textbooks in the basement of the GSU. The old bookstore was located in the northwest corner of the Union, where the Student Center Lounge is today. As this 1964 photograph shows, the shop carried a variety of items other than books, including -- wedged above the Jewelry, Pens, Gifts display -- busts of Beethoven, Wagner, Bach, and Mozart.
