Obituary

Anita Cuadrado, assistant dean for undergraduate programs at the Boston University College of Engineering, died on October 20 of cancer. She was 40.

Cuadrado served as the College's director of undergraduate academic and student affairs for six years until her appointment as assistant dean in 1994. She was the campus director for Newbury College prior to her tenure at the University. During her 19-year career in education she also established a state-approved private school in Georgia and provided academic, vocational, and life skills instruction to emotionally disturbed adolescents.

"Anita was the key figure in the evolution of the undergraduate program at the College," says Charles DeLisi, dean of ENG. "Our students loved her, and she was extraordinarily dedicated to them. She brightened everyone's day and was always upbeat. I have a great admiration for her, both personally and professionally. Anita lived a remarkable life."

Tom Kincaid, ENG professor and former associate dean for undergraduate programs, says that "her enthusiasm, her flair for organization, and her attention to detail were crucial to the operation of the undergraduate office. What will be missed the most is her genuine concern and care for the students at the College."

Cuadrado received a bachelor of science degree in education from Lesley College and a master of arts degree in higher education administration and student development from Boston College.

Cuadrado is survived by her parents, John J. and Inez M. Cuadrado, of Hampstead, N.C.; her fiancé, David Mansfield, of Arlington, Mass; and her brother, John Cuadrado, Jr., of Princeton N.J.

On October 22 students, faculty, and staff reflected on Cuadrado's life in a gathering at 44 Cummington St. A funeral was held the following day at Marsh Chapel. She was interred at Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge. Contributions in her memory may be made to Lesley College, Development Office, 29 Everett St., Cambridge, MA 02138.
