As NASA's space rover Spirit pokes around the surface of Mars collecting and analyzing samples of sediment for the next three months, scientists will wait eagerly for signs of water and life on the red planet.

In Dick Lehr's and Mitchell Zuckoff's book Judgment Ridge: The True Story Behind the Dartmouth Murders (HarperCollins), the visiting College of Communication professors describe the loud, insistent knock, the intense eyes peering through the door's small window, and the youth's “hot breath leaving vapor clouds on the glass.”
