Associate Dean Dr. Peter Szende receives 2017 ICHRIE Chef Herman Breithaupt Award

On Friday, July 28, 2017 Dr. Peter Szende, Associate Dean at the Boston University School of Hospitality Administration, was presented with the 2017 ICHRIE Chef Herman Breithaupt Award while attending the International Counsel on Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Education annual conference in Baltimore, Maryland.

Peter-Szende-ICHRIE-Award-518x636According to ICHRIE, the award “honors the memory of a pioneer in culinary education by recognizing outstanding achievement and contributions to foodservice education. The recipient of this award must exhibit high professionalism, demonstrate a strong commitment to hospitality education, and have a record of contributions to International CHRIE and the industry as an educator.”

Dr. Szende joined the Boston University School of Hospitality Administration in 2003 and has since taught multiple courses including Food and Beverage Management. He has written two books, Hospitality Marketing and Case Scenarios in Hospitality Supervision, and published multiple hospitality learning modules. In spring 2014, he was awarded a Fulbright Scholar grant and during Spring 2014 he served as a visiting faculty member in the Department of Economic Geography and Tourism Competence Center at Corvinus University of Budapest, Hungary. Since returning from Hungary, he has served as the Director of Curriculum and Instruction and in January 2016 was appointed as Associate Dean of Academic Affairs while continuing to teach both undergraduate and graduate courses. His unwavering commitment to advancing hospitality education, curriculum, and research at both Boston University and beyond is truly deserving of such a prestigious award.
