School of Hospitality Announces 2018 Alumni of The Year Awardees
The School of Hospitality Administration is delighted to announce the recipients of the 2018 Alumni of The Year and Young Alumni of The Year awardees.
Each year, the School nominates individuals from our talented and distinguished alumni network to receive the Alumni of The Year award. Recently, the School has begun to honor a Young Alumni of The Year as well. The awardees are leaders in the hospitality industry that have graduated from the School of Hospitality and continue to stay involved with the school today.
We invite alumni and their families to join us as we present the winners with their awards at the 2018 School of Hospitality Alumni Awards and Reception on Friday, September 21st from 5:00-7:0pm in the SHA lobby!
2018 Alum of The Year
Dana Floberg ’07
Dana Waud Floberg stands at the forefront of the fast-moving hotel industry. As a Director with the HVS consulting and valuation office in Chicago, she has conducted valuations and feasibility studies for high-profile hotels across Greater Chicago and the Midwest. Her expertise ranges from simple hotel appraisals to complex waterpark resort feasibility studies.
Ms. Floberg was raised in the Midwest, prior to enrolling at Boston University. She attended BU’s College of General Studies for two years before transferring to the School of Hospitality Administration. While at BU she participated in club lacrosse and soccer and worked at the Fairmont Copley Plaza. After a few years working in the industry, she returned to school and attended École Hôtelière de Lausanne, Switzerland, where she received her Executive MBA and Master of Science degree in Hospitality Administration.
Ms. Floberg is an active member of the BU School of Hospitality Alumni Group in Chicago and returned to Boston in 2018 as a speaker for the Dean’s Distinguished Lecturer series. She is a Certified General Appraiser in five states and has completed over 400 hours of classwork.
Dana is an avid SCUBA diver, sailor, snowboarder, and traveler. She serves on the Auxiliary Board of the Shedd Aquarium of Chicago; volunteers with The Night Ministry and Habitat for Humanity; and supports PAWS, The Nature Conservancy, and Misericordia. Dana and her husband Dan currently reside in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago.
2018 Young Alum of The Year
Phoenix Anna Porcelli ’11
Phoenix Porcelli brings over a decade of meeting and event expertise in Boston, Paris and NYC to the Convene team. Convene is the fastest-growing network of full-service, tech-enabled meeting, event, and flexible workspaces. As a Certified Meeting Planner (CMP), Phoenix works collaboratively with other CMPs and Event Professionals to solve problems and achieve operational objectives through venue selection and strategic planning efforts. Her role provides a unique perspective on industry trends. Prior to joining Convene, Phoenix worked at the Waldorf Astoria.
As a student at Boston University, Phoenix was heavily involved on campus. She volunteered at the Community Service Center with Student Food Rescue and Alternative Spring Break. She also served as a Student Advisor and Dean’s Host for the University. Additionally during her undergraduate years, Phoenix became Vice President of the BU chapter of the national sorority, Alpha Delta Pi.
Presently, Phoenix supports the School of Hospitality New York City alumni efforts. She recently arranged a BU Global Day of Service in New York City at Emma’s Torch–a restaurant that trains and facilitates job placement for refugees. Phoenix also volunteers and fosters rescue dogs through both Muddy Paws Rescue and In Our Hands Animal Rescue. In her free time, Phoenix enjoys playing with her recently adopted rescue puppy named Potato, traveling, running, reading, and being a foodie.
