Jordan Fessehaie (SHA ’18) Inducted Into BU’s Prestigious Scarlet Key Honor Society
The Scarlet Key Honor Society is the highest honor given to Boston University student leaders who have enhanced their community and BU experience.
On Saturday, September 17, 2017, Jordan Fessehaie (SHA ’18) was formally inducted into Boston University’s Scarlet Key Honor Society.
The Scarlet Key Honor Society is the highest honor given to Boston University student leaders. Rising seniors are nominated for this prestigious award by faculty, administrators, or fellow rising seniors. For over 75 years, inductees to the Society have been selected based “on excellence in University student activities and organizations, commitment, involvement in the individual’s School or College, and in scholarship.”
Jordan’s enthusiasm for Boston University began long before she even became an official Terrier.
“When I first met Jordan as a prospective student, she was 15 years old and she promised me she would be coming to BU someday. I was so impressed with her passion and attitude and after her being admitted and spending the past three and a half years here, she has only grown stronger as a leader and is always looking to be a voice for others,” said Brian Shockley, Assistant Dean of Finance & Administration at the School of Hospitality Administration (SHA).
Since arriving at Boston University as a freshman in 2014, she has used her time to share her passion and commitment for both SHA and BU.
She currently serves as the President of SHAgov, the School of Hospitality Administration’s student government association. She is also an Admissions Ambassador where she serves on the Student Diversity Board and as a Scarlet Speaker for BU recruiting events.
Through BU, Jordan is a Posse Foundation Scholarship awardee. In a recent video from the BU Alumni Association, she said the scholarship “makes me push harder and be more thoughtful in everything I do here on campus. It makes me take advantage of all the opportunities here on campus because I know a lot of people are supporting me. I wouldn’t be here without other people.”
Since 2014, she has served in leadership roles for the National Society for Minorities in Hospitality and Student Government. In 2015 as a Summer Orientation Leader, she guided and mentored new students through the University and orientation programming. She also held a Teaching Assistant role in 2016 for the School’s culinary courses where she worked alongside Chef Rico DiFronzo, Executive Chef of Boston’s Union Oyster House. In June 2016, she was selected as a Program Fellow of the Management Leadership for Tomorrow based in Washington D.C. As one of just 350 Program Fellow’s, she has completed intensive management, analytical, and communication training while attending conferences hosted by Deloitte, Google, Goldman Sachs, P&G, and Target.
When she’s not on campus, she carries the BU spirit with her as a volunteer for the Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta, Big Brother Big Sister Association of Greater Boston, and throughout her unique work experiences around the world. She will graduate this May with a packed resume including time spent as a Human Resources Management Trainee at The Taj Hotels in Mumbai, India, a Human Capital Intern at PricewaterhouseCoopers in Sydney, Australia, and most recently as a Talent Acquisition Intern at Intuit’s Mountain View, California headquarters.
“I have visibly witnessed her expressions of enthusiasm, positivity, care and passion for SHA as a leader, cheerleader, and champion, whether it was representing SHA to prospective students, accepted students, or simply meeting with guests who visited the School,” said Leora Lanz, Professor of Hospitality Marketing at the School, “I am so thrilled for her and she is an excellent example of the spirit of SHA.”
