The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant disruptive impact on the hospitality industry. Its implications for every aspect of the industry, from operations and financial planning to the customer experience, marketing, and new business models are only just being understood. As the industry grapples with many of these issues, academia is similarly at an inflection point about the nature of scholarship that should define the next era of hospitality research. There is a need for bold and critical reflection on the future of the hospitality industry.

To pave the way for this research agenda, SHA plans to bring together leading scholars from across the various domains of hospitality. This international conference is aimed at providing critical, reflective thought leadership on the future of the hospitality industry in line with the philosophy of one of the leading academic journals in the field, the International Journal of Contemporary Hospitality Management (IJCHM).

Professor Fevzi Okumus, Editor-in-Chief of IJCHM, will serve as the conference’s keynote speaker and lead facilitator along with Dean Arun Upneja of BU SHA.

The format of the conference is dialogical, involving in-depth brainstorming in a small group format that will result in output for submission to IJCHM’s critical reflection paper (CRP) track. IJCHM will offer a fast and rigorous double-blind review process for all papers submitted to IJCHM as a result of the conference. The outcome of each paper submission will be decided based on the double-blind review process (there is no guarantee that each submission will be accepted for publication in IJCHM).
