Calvin Juwono MMH '21 Alumni Profile

Calvin Juwono

Beverage Entrepreneur MMH ’21

The MMH degree built my foundation for the next step in my career. I learned how to focus on understanding customer needs, and gained valuable insights regarding operations, finance, and organizational leadership. As the hospitality industry adjusts to the new norm in the backdrop of the pandemic, this robust foundation is critical for me to adapt and thrive.

The program’s digital marketing concentration allowed me to bring some of my prior experiences with me. My internship in a digital marketing agency bolstered my appreciation of the field, and I understand how digital marketing is relevant not only from a marketing perspective but also strategically. The program’s digital marketing concentration facilitated and accelerated the learning of more growth strategies, in a structured environment.

Boston University’s MMH program is where I did a lot of learning and networking. It is where I was able to grow both professionally and personally. It is also where I was able to explore my passion for hospitality. Through the core and elective courses, the Boston setting, and the program’s strong alumni network, I can develop and leverage my existing skills and knowledge to be ready for the world of hospitality management.

Since graduation, I’ve jumped into entrepreneurship in the hospitality industry, specifically developing new experiences for beer lovers in Indonesia. The project tackles everything from production to consumption of quality Craft Beer. The Indonesian market lags behind the rest of the world regarding access and selection of Craft Beer, despite millions of Indonesians from various cultures demanding it.
