Emily grew up immersed in art, theater, and music in Montclair, NJ. She received her BA from San Francisco State University and earned her MS in Broadcast Journalism from BU’s School of Communication.

Emily has been immersed in the hospitality Industry for over 40 years, working in restaurants in the South End of Boston, Maine, and San Francisco, catering, serving as a private chef, and running two small businesses (house cleaning and downsizing/organizing).  She also taught several Women’s Studies courses at UNH.

Emily has two loves: The Arts and Hospitality. She has shown her visual art at craft markets throughout New England and periodically displays her work at the John Joseph Moakley Court House in Boston. Currently, she performs with an improv comedy team at the Improv Asylum on Tuesday nights.

Emily won an award from the Associated Press for her master’s thesis, a pilot she filmed for a lesbian talk show. She also produced and hosted two radio shows in Portsmouth, NH (pre-podcast era): All Things Gay (interviewing activists, religious leaders, academics, authors & comedians) and The Pulse (focusing on giving teens a voice). She studied with Shakespeare & Company, has performed in children’s theater productions, and continues to pursue her first artistic love: Improv Comedy.

Emily is thrilled to have the opportunity to bring her broad range of experience and love of hospitality to SHA as Dean Upneja’s Assistant. Working closely with students, staff, and faculty has been a deeply rewarding experience.
