
Jim O’Shaughnessy
Managing Director, Hotel Group Leader
Mr. O’Shaughnessy is responsible for all facets of the Barings Hotel Group including asset management, as well as the ongoing acquisition and development of hotel assets on behalf of clients of Barings Real Estate, part of Barings LLC. In his role overseeing acquisitions, he is involved with all aspects of transactions including the sourcing, underwriting, due diligence, financing and the closing process with respect to new investments. He is also involved in the negotiation of management and franchise agreements. In his role overseeing hotel asset management, Mr. O’Shaughnessy is involved on a day-to-day basis in working with the asset managers to assist in the optimization of portfolio results, which includes managing the disposition strategy of hotel assets.
His responsibilities involve deploying and managing client hotel investments in both the United States and Europe.
Mr. O’Shaughnessy previously served as Senior Vice President of the Hotel Group. Prior to joining the firm in 2000, Mr. O’Shaughnessy worked for the North American hotel division of Accor as a Regional Operations Manager responsible for a group of full-service hotels in the southern and eastern regions of the United States. Prior to that, he held the position of General Manager in full service hotels in Texas and Canada with Accor. Mr. O’Shaughnessy began his hotel career with Hyatt Hotels & Resorts serving in various rooms’ division management capacities.
Mr. O’Shaughnessy began his managerial career in the hotel industry in 1988. Mr. O’Shaughnessy earned a BA degree in Government from Dartmouth College and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
