Kelly Starman
SHA’07 Vice President, Regent Apparel

Why did you choose SHA?
When I started at BU, I wanted to go into business, and started taking SMG courses. However, I was really missing the human element of the buisness, and I found the courses in SHA focused much more on the human element of business. While attending BU, my dream was to open fine dining restaurants in California, and the courses I took were in preparation of this.
What are some of your favorite BU memories?
Some of my favorite memories are lunches at Sunset Cantina, trudging down Commonwealth Ave in the snow (maybe not my favorite, but certainly memorable!), and attending hockey games.
What was your first full-time job? How did you end up in your current position?
My first full-time job was with Hillstone Restaurant Group. The company recruited at SHA and I was hired before graduating! After several years of working at Hillstone, I decided to transition to another area of the business-chef apparel! I went to work at my family business, where we’ve been manufacturing apparel for the hospitality industry for almost a century. My sisters and I have recently started our own apron line that focuses on high-fashion, high-function kitchen apparel.
Please describe your current role. How did your SHA education impact your career?
I work in apparel manufacturing, and have responsibilities in several areas of the business including production, operations, and business development. In my new role with Otis Street, our apron start-up, I am working on designing, sourcing, and growing our little business!
Any advice for current and prospective students?
