Metropolitan College Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice Danielle Rousseau, Associate Professor of the Practice of City Planning & Urban Affairs Luis E. Santiago, and Assistant Professor of Applied Social Sciences Yeşim Sungu-Eryilmaz have each been named 2024 Faculty Research Fellows by BU’s Frederick S. Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future
The fellowship award will fund a unique, interdisciplinary research effort that the three BU MET professors will conduct over one-to-two years; a project titled, “What Lies Beyond Built Infrastructure? Trauma-informed Planning (TIP) in Municipal and Regional Climate Recovery and Resilience.”
As climate change has an increasing impact on urban areas worldwide, the damage extends beyond economic and material considerations—it also stands to take a toll on mental and physiological health. With this fellowship, Professors Rousseau, Santiago, and Sungu-Eryilmaz will examine areas recently impacted by extreme weather events to see to what extent those regions’ existing municipal recovery and resilience plans have integrated trauma-informed principles. They will also investigate what significant policy or practice gaps emerge when trauma-informed principles are applied to municipal recovery and climate resilience plans.
As fellows, Professors Rousseau, Santiago, and Sungu-Eryilmaz will produce publications and lead Pardee Center-sponsored seminars, conferences, and workshops related to their research.
