American Heritage® Chocolate Grant to Support Gastronomy Research
Sweet! On July 13, 2021, the Master of Arts in Gastronomy program at Boston University’s Metropolitan College was awarded a Forrest E. Mars, Jr. Chocolate History Research Grant in the amount of $2,800. Winners were announced at a virtual event hosted by the Heritage Chocolate Society. The grant—named in honor of the late Mars, Jr., heir to the Mars Wrigley confectionary empire and advocate for the history of the Americas—was created to support institutions dedicated to telling the story of chocolate’s role in our global heritage and culture. Thanks to these funds, students in the MA in Gastronomy will be partnering with Dr. Carla Martin of the Fine Cacao and Chocolate Institute to design research projects about the historic and contemporary uses of chocolate in Boston. They will present their research in forms both audible and edible at a public event in May 2022.
