Award-Winning Alum Richard DeWolfe (MET’71) to Deliver BU MET 2023 Commencement Address

Richard B. DeWolfe (MET’71), a Boston University trustee emeritus who was chair of the Board of Trustees, will address graduates at MET’s Convocation Ceremony. DeWolfe, who currently sits on the BU Metropolitan College (MET) Dean’s Advisory Board, will also receive the 2023 MET Alumni Award for Distinguished Service to Alma Mater.

DeWolfe is a major figure in the New England real estate market. He founded DeWolfe Companies, Inc., in 1975, and served as chair and CEO. The firm, which started with nine employees and a plan for an integrated platform of residential real estate brokerage, corporate relocation services, mortgage banking, and insurance sales, would go on to become the largest homeownership organization in New England.

An enthusiastic supporter of Boston University and Metropolitan College, DeWolfe initiated the 1996 “Pulling Together” capital campaign to fund construction of BU’s DeWolfe Boathouse, named in memory of his paternal grandparents, Alice and Burpee L. DeWolfe. The Boathouse was dedicated in 1999 and is home to BU’s varsity rowing teams.

Honors include the Boston University Distinguished Alumni Award (2004) and the BU MET Alumni Award for Distinguished Service to the Profession (1991). DeWolfe has also received Boston University’s Roger “Moose” Washburn Memorial Award (2002); Arthur Stevens Award (1999); and Thomas Fitzpatrick Memorial Award (1996).

Today, DeWolfe is managing partner of real estate investment management firm DeWolfe & Company, LLC, and is the newly elected president of John’s Island Club, Vero Beach, Florida. He is also director of the president’s council at Massachusetts General Hospital and is chair of the Quissett Harbor Preservation Trust. He has been recognized as Greater Boston Realtor of the Year as well as Massachusetts Realtor of the Year and is a member of Omega Tau Rho. DeWolfe is former president of the Greater Boston Real Estate Board and former director of the Massachusetts Association of Realtors.
