Metropolitan College’s Master of City Planning prepares professionals for roles in urban and regional development through a curriculum that embraces sustainability, creativity, pragmatism, and diversity of thought. Jacob Lacey (MET’23), a graduate with a work history that includes AmeriCorps as well as the city of Boston, says in an interview with Planetizen that learning the theories and technical skills his graduate education provided was essential to his career growth plan.

Lacey, who also earned his Graduate Certificate in Applied Sustainability at BU MET, wants to better communities by connecting people with the spaces in which they live. He was able to get experience doing just that when his class worked in collaboration with a Jamaica Plain, Boston-situated community group to assess the impacts of a neighborhood development.

“This real-world work offered lasting skill-based learning while also establishing tangible and productive relationships with local planners and organizers,” Lacey said.
