MET Alum Named New NASA Acting Administrator

Janet PetroJanet Petro (MET’88), who graduated from Metropolitan College with a Master of Science in Business Administration, a degree formerly offered as part of MET’s programs in Business & Management, has been named acting administrator of NASA by the Trump administration.

Petro, who served as the director of NASA’s Kennedy Space Center, is known for shepherding partnerships between the launch site and private enterprises seeking to make space flight and travel available to citizen consumers. Her appointment to the new post was considered a surprise within the field as incoming administrations typically appoint new leadership, as opposed to promoting from within.

Petro is the first woman to serve in this high-level role. She was also the first woman to serve as director of the Kennedy Space Center.
