Boston University Metropolitan College Welcomed into CFA Institute University Affiliation Program
Master of Science in Financial Management students taking steps toward career success through preparation for the CFA Program
March 2019—Boston University Metropolitan College (MET) has become the latest university to be welcomed into the CFA Institute University Affiliation Program. MET’s Master of Science in Financial Management program has been acknowledged as incorporating at least 70 percent of the CFA Program Candidate Body of Knowledge (CBOK) and placing emphasis on the CFA Institute Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice within the program. This program position students well to obtain the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation, which has become the most respected and recognized investment credential in the world.
Entry into the CFA Institute University Affiliation Program signals to potential students, employers, and the marketplace that Boston University Metropolitan College’s curriculum is closely tied to professional practice and is well-suited to preparing students to sit for the CFA examinations. Through participation in this program, Boston University Metropolitan College is eligible to receive a limited number of student scholarships for the CFA Program each year.
Available in on-campus, online, and blended formats, the Financial Management master’s program provides students with a specialized education in global finance. The MS in Financial Management degree program is designed for students seeking careers in corporate finance, financial management, investments, and multinational finance. Students may choose an optional concentration in International Finance or Investment Analysis. The 2019 U.S. News & World Report ranking of the Best Online Graduate Business Programs (Excluding MBA) places BU MET’s graduate management degree programs, including the MS in Financial Management, at #11 among 156 business master’s programs nationally—within the top 7 percent—thanks, in no small part, to the outstanding contributions of our faculty.
Taught by faculty who are internationally renowned for their research on issues surrounding global finance, MET’s finance curriculum readies students to meet the demanding standards set by the CFA Institute required to earn the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.
According to Irena Vodenska, Associate Professor and director of finance programs at MET, “Our participation in the CFA Institute University Affiliation Program conveys a message that our MS in Financial Management prepares students for a successful investment management career and provides the tools to succeed on the Chartered Financial Analyst Program exams. This significantly increases the Financial Management program’s value for our students.”
Through the affiliation, several scholarships for the CFA Program exam are available to MET students enrolled in the MS in Financial Management or either of the master’s degree concentrations. Each student who receives a scholarship will be entitled to a waiver of the CFA Program enrollment fee, as well as the partial waiver of the CFA exam registration fee—resulting in significant savings. Scholarships are granted by the CFA Institute and will be awarded by MET based on academic standing and aptitude for the CFA charter.
“For this affiliation with the CFA Institute, I thank Dr. Vodenska and the faculty committee that was instrumental in the recent, thorough update of the MS in Financial Management program curriculum,” says Dean of Metropolitan College Tanya Zlateva. “MET programs such as the Financial Management degree are continually assessed to ensure that they are aligned with the highest industry standards. As our CFA affiliation confirms, our financial management courses provide our students with the essential knowledge required for success on the rigorous CFA Program exams.”
