Project Management Certification More Significant than Ever, In Every Field, MET PM Director and Alum Say

Boston University Metropolitan College’s director of Project Management, Dr. Vijay Kanabar, first earned his PMP certification 25 years ago. In the time since, the credential, which confers a mastery of managing risk, quality, communications, resources and project scope has become an industry standard across the project management field. Over the last 20 years Dr. Kanabar has helped train more than 2,000 people to earn the credential by leading PMP exam preparation.

“This credential is widespread across disciplines,” Kanabar tells U.S. News & World Report, citing industries that include health care, financial services, construction, manufacturing and information services. “I’ve not seen a single discipline that does not recognize and appreciate that.”

Robert Fritz (MET’07) coupled his MS in Administrative Studies with PMP certification, and as he tells U.S. News, the credential “certainly opened doors, because I had a new skill set I did not have previously.” He credits his exam preparation at MET with his success. “It’s not an easy test,” he says.
