Topics in Jewish Philosophy

A consideration of several topics basic to classical Jewish thought. The first topic will deal with the concept of contrition: Can one be American and deeply regret having done something? Or is the past relegated to the ash heap, and is it only tomorrow that counts? The primary text will be Iggeret haTeshuva by the hasidic master, Rabbi Schneur Zalman of Lubavitch (Liadi). The second topic will explore whether Maimonides' insistence that free choice is fundamental to Jewish life – is correct. Other topics may also be considered. Led by Rabbi Joseph Polak. Part of Hillel School.
