  1. In 2015 the Executive Committee of BU’s Board of Trustees decided against the University divesting from civilian firearms manufacturers. In issuing this decision, the Committee said that it didn’t meet circumstances warranting such action stating (among other things) that such circumstances “exist only when (i) the degree of social harm caused by the actions of the firms in the asset class is clearly unacceptable; and (ii) any potential negative consequences of the decision . . . are clearly outweighed by the importance of taking the divestment action in order to lessen or mitigate the social harm.”
It seems to me that Dean Galea’s editorial makes the case that the circumstances clearly exist now. It is time for BU to do the right thing and divest now.
