Jado Jehad at Boston Playwrights’ Theatre
In Jado Jehad, a coming-of-age drama set in Pakistan and currently playing at the Boston Playwrights’ Theatre, Mashal, home from attending college in America, is back in her grandmother’s house, as is her mother, struggling after a divorce. It was never a comfortable place to be, but its many rules and Pakistan’s patriarchal culture make it even more suffocating. In the tight quarters, lifetimes of grief and long-held secrets rise to the surface. Mashal is played by Vidisha Agarwalla (right) and Amal by Sushmita Udoshi (COM’24). A BU New Play Initiative production, written by by Fatima A. Maan (GRS’23), Jado Jehad runs Thursdays to Sundays through February 26. Photo by Stratton McCrady
