IOC 10th Anniversary Celebration
BU’s Initiative on Cities celebrated its 10th anniversary April 1 at the Center for Computing & Data Sciences. Featured were highlights from the past decade of supporting urban research and avenues for students to connect and excel as leaders. Speakers shared future goals and initiatives, among them the Urban-H research agenda, launched in spring 2023, the cornerstone of the IoC’s work for the next five years. It will seek new solutions to three key challenges posing a growing threat to urban livability and vitality: housing, heat, and health, areas where BU is well-positioned to have a lasting impact. The IoC will examine these issues separately and as a tripartite, focusing on equity and justice and working with practitioners, policymakers, governments, and communities on the ground to pursue evidence-based and practical solutions.
