Dashoush on Digital Media Team that Receives Emmy Nod
BU Wheelock’s Nermeen Dashoush is part of a team that has been nominated for a Children’s & Family Emmy Award. Dashoush is the lead advisor on Lyla in the Loop, a PBS KIDS series featured in the educational game Stu’s Super Stunts. Produced by Mighty Picnic and Makefully Studios, Stu’s Super Stunts is nominated in the “Interactive Media” category.

To shape the content for Lyla in the Loop, Dashoush works closely with Mighty Picnic’s director of digital production & engagements, Nneka Bolden, and Anna Jordan Douglass, the founder and chief creative officer of Makefully Studios. A clinical associate professor of early childhood, Dashoush draws on her expertise in curriculum, child development, and cultural relevance to help develop the curriculum and define the learning goals that the Lyla in the Loop game models.
“I provide recommendations based on research, theory, and observations of children interacting with the product, offering insights for the team to consider,” says Dashoush. “The partnership between BU Wheelock, Mighty Picnic, and Makefully is essential to the success of the work and to positively impacting children’s learning.”
Lyla in the Loop, created by Executive Producer Dave Peth, teaches children computational thinking skills—fundamental problem-solving abilities essential for fields like computer science. The nominated game, Stu’s Super Stunts, features a series of challenges that children solve using algorithmic thinking. They are both available free on pbskids.org and on the PBS KIDS Games and Video apps.
“It’s important to recognize games like this because they are not only fun and engaging, but they also demonstrate how coding and algorithmic thinking can be introduced to children in a playful, joyful way,” says Dashoush. “These skills are already embedded in everyday life and the game helps children see that.”
This marks Dashoush’s second Emmy nomination, with her first in 2019 for contributions to Children’s Digital Content.
