A Luminous Painting

my unborn niece stenciled in beats
crater on her head
watching us from the sonograph

like a Martian eye
or a coronagraph
the eclipsed sun revealing

her crown’s corona
a gray luminous shine
as if the doctor planted

on my painted cognate
a coronet
for anticipated acumen

Sean Campbell, born in Carmel, NY, graduated in 2006 with a BFA from Emerson College. Lives in Allston, feels at home in Boston. Has two older sisters, and as well a niece named Zoe. This is his first publication in a Boston literary journal.
