Take a Class at MET
Info sessions on employee tuition remission benefit

This story originally ran June 20, 2011; it has been recently updated to include current information.
Been itching to study the psychology of creativity, the social history of the North End, or the art of web design? Attend one of Metropolitan College’s several information sessions this week to learn about the more than 60 undergraduate, graduate-level, and certificate programs offered by MET throughout the year.
By using their tuition remission benefit, BU employees are able to take MET classes either free or at a discount. Most MET classes are held weeknights from 6 to 9 p.m.
Take a class towards an undergraduate or graduate degree or just for fun. Courses offered this fall range from marketing to gastronomy, biology to Java programming.
Tuition remission is not a free ride—it does not cover fees or the cost of books. Classes offered online, through executive graduate programs, or at the School of Medicine and the School of Dental Medicine are not covered by the benefit, either.
Employee information sessions will be held over the next three days and preregistration is recommended.
The information sessions will explain the different offerings at MET, says Kristin McAuliffe, a manager at MET’s Student and Corporate Outreach, who can answer such nitty-gritty questions as how to apply for tuition remission and how to find out tax information.
“Tuition remission is one of the best benefits available to BU employees, and they should take advantage of it,” McAuliffe says. “It may seem intimidating at first, but I hope to explain how it’s doable.”
Information sessions are today, Monday, June 25, at 12:30 and 5:30 p.m., for undergraduate programs; Tuesday, June 26, at 12:30 and 5:30 p.m., for graduate programs. Both sessions will held at 725 Commonwealth Ave., Room 204B. An information session for both undergraduate and graduate programs will be held on the BU Medical Campus Wednesday, June 27, at 12:30 p.m., at 72 East Concord St., Room L201.
Classes for the second summer session begin July 2. Classes for the fall semester begin September 4. More information about the program is here.
