Childhood Cantonese Cuisine

Cantonese is a language spoken in China, mainly in the Guangdong (广东) province and Hong Kong (香港). Stir-frying, steaming and roasting food are prominent qualities of Cantonese cuisine. Flavors are subtle and less overpowering, because emphasis is placed on the natural taste of the food itself. Growing up in a Cantonese household with families from Taishan (台山) and Hong Kong, our meals consisted of many homemade Chinese dishes, most of which were recipes passed down from generation to generation. We would also occasionally eat meals local dim sum and Chinese restaurants. Eating together holds great significance in our families so it was always a happy and lively atmosphere that we remember.
